I happened upon this tool last week or so and I have been putting it to work.
If you are not an English Lit major and you do not really know all the proper literary rules, this is for you! I know it is for me.
It can check spelling and grammar, but so can grammarly.
It checks for passive verbs. I didnt even know that was a thing. It is.
It can check for overused words. Im bad at that.
It can check for repeated phrases. Yeah, when you see that you have identical 6-8 word phrases, you will want to fix that.
Echoes. Sometimes we echo the same word close by for effect. Sometimes by mistake. (See what I did there?)
Sticky sentences. I never heard of such a thing. But they exist and I have plenty to clean up.
And a lot more stuff.
There is no question to me that this makes my writing stronger and more professional.
The downside is that it takes a bit of time. It doesnt just fix everything for you. Not all of its recommendations are spot on. Its your job to figure out what to keep and what to fix. I bring in 5 chapters at a time and it groans a little. It takes me a few hours to go through all of the parts I go through.
It also gives you a nice summary report, telling you what parts are good and what parts need help.
When I hand this novel to my editor, I think it is going to be much cleaner than the last one. She will be able to focus on story, development and all that and hopefully much fewer grammar and English problems.
