Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. These Contest Terms (“Terms”) apply to any writing contest, giveaway, promotion, or competition (each a “Contest”) offered on FIIP.net (the “Site”). If a specific Contest page lists additional rules, deadlines, prize details, or judging criteria, those Contest-specific terms control if they conflict with these Terms.

• Are at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in their jurisdiction (whichever is higher)
• Can legally participate under applicable laws where they live
• Are not prohibited from entering by these Terms

Not eligible: FIIP staff, contractors working on the Contest, judges, and their immediate family and household members.

Void where prohibited or restricted by law.

Each Contest has an entry period (“Entry Period”) posted on the Contest page, including a start date/time and end date/time. Times are listed in [Central Time (US)] unless stated otherwise.

To enter, you must follow the instructions on the Contest page. Unless the Contest page says otherwise, an entry typically includes:

• Book title
• Author name or pen name
• Genre
• A short book description (character limit shown on the entry form)
• A cover image (if requested)
• Optional: a sample/excerpt (if requested)

Entry limits:

• One entry per person during the Entry Period
• One entry per book during the Entry Period

No purchase is required to enter unless the Contest page clearly states an entry fee. If an entry fee is required, it covers contest administration and participation, not improved odds of winning.

By submitting an entry, you represent and warrant that:

• You own the rights to the materials you submit, or you have permission to submit them
• Your submission does not infringe any third-party rights (copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, etc.)
• Your submission is not unlawful, defamatory, threatening, or otherwise inappropriate
• You have followed all plagiarism rules for your area/country.

We may reject or remove entries that, in our judgment, violate these Terms, the Contest page rules, or harm the integrity of the Contest.

This is a skill-based contest. Winners are selected based on merit, not chance, unless the Contest page clearly states the Contest is random-draw.

Judging process, criteria, and any weighting will be listed on the Contest page. If not listed, FIIP may judge entries using criteria such as:

• Clarity and strength of the hook
• Reader appeal and genre fit
• Professionalism and accuracy of presentation
• Originality of concept

Judges’ decisions are final.

We reserve the right not to award a prize if, in our judgment, no entries meet the standard described on the Contest page.

Prizes (including quantity, details, and approximate value) will be listed on the Contest page.

General prize conditions (unless the Contest page says otherwise):

• No substitution, transfer, or cash alternative, except at FIIP’s discretion
• FIIP may replace a prize with one of equal or greater value if necessary
• Winners are responsible for any taxes or reporting obligations, if applicable

Winners will be notified using the contact information provided in the entry (typically email).

Response deadline:

• Winners must respond within [5] days of notification (or the deadline listed on the Contest page), or the prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner.
• FiiP is not responsible for improperly entered email address.

Verification:

• FIIP may require proof of identity, eligibility, and compliance with these Terms before awarding a prize.
• Winners may be required to sign an eligibility declaration and a liability/publicity release where permitted by law.

By entering, you agree that FIIP may publicly display:

• Your author name or pen name
• Your book title, cover, description, and related entry details
• Any award or placement you receive

If you are a winner, you also agree to reasonable promotional requests (for example, a short quote or brief interview) unless prohibited by law.

You keep ownership of your book and submitted materials.

FiiP will destroy all entries after 60 days of entry.

However, by submitting an entry, you grant FIIP a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, publish, and distribute your submitted materials (such as your book cover, title, description, and up to [300] words of any excerpt you provided) solely for:

• Administering the Contest
• Promoting the Contest, the results, and FIIP (including on the Site, email, and social media)
• Creating a public winners list, finalist list, or archive of past Contests

Credit:
We will make reasonable efforts to credit you by author name or pen name where your materials appear.

FIIP may disqualify any entrant who:

• Violates these Terms or the Contest page rules
• Submits false or misleading information
• Attempts to tamper with the entry process, voting, or judging
• Engages in harassment, fraud, or other conduct that undermines the Contest

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FIIP is not responsible for:

• Late, lost, incomplete, corrupted, or misdirected entries
• Technical failures (Site downtime, email delivery issues, network problems)
• Any injury, loss, or damage arising from participation or acceptance/use of a prize
• FiiP is not responsible for improperly entered email address

Your entry information will be handled according to the Privacy Policy on this page. We use submitted information to administer the Contest, communicate with entrants, and announce results.

FIIP may modify, suspend, or cancel a Contest if circumstances beyond our control make the Contest unfair, unsafe, or impractical to administer (including fraud, technical failures, or unforeseen events). If we cancel a Contest, we may, at our discretion, award prizes based on eligible entries received before cancellation.

These Terms are governed by the laws of [State], without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Houma, Louisiana, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
